Fun + Functional Kids Playroom with Wayfair

I was so excited when Wayfair asked me to share my ideas for a Fun + Functional Kids Playroom. We are currently gathering ideas to finish our basement, and this just gave me head start on a creating a room just for my girls!

Creating spaces for kids is my absolute favorite (here + here). I enjoy the challenge of creating a room that they will not get bored with or outgrow too quickly. I also want the space to feel like a room that I, myself want to spend time in.

As with any room, I don’t like clutter, so storage + organization was my main focus when finding pieces for this playroom design board. There is a place for everything from books, play food, art supplies, trinkets, and of course.. stuffed animals!

A table and chairs is always essential to any kids playroom. I love the variety that Wayfair has to offer. Adding things like a teepee with a plush floor pillow can create a cozy reading corner. A vibrant rug and whimsical artwork give the room a burst of color. And of course, it wouldn’t be a kids playroom without a play kitchen.. complete with its very own farmhouse sink!

Imaginative play is so important, but I know as my girls get older, the room may transform to less toys and more of a creative space for homework and art projects. Wayfair offers endless options to create a vibrant and whimsical space. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to find such great pieces through Wayfair.

Capri’s Swan theme 5th Birthday Party

HAPPY New Year! Can you even believe that it is 2020?! Whew! ..what a decade it has been. I definitely have SO much to be grateful for.

The past decade has given me two of my greatest gifts.. my beautiful girls! Capri turned FIVE years old last week, and I am so amazed at how quickly those five years have come and gone. Last weekend, we celebrated her Birthday with a Swan themed Birthday Party. It was complete with lots of pink, sparkle and frill.. just like my girl! I know she’s growing so fast, but I hope that she stays in the phase of loving her baby dolls, dressing up in pretty party dresses (just to go to the grocery store), or always having to have her nails painted. It’s what I love most about her!

Here are some fun photos from her Birthday Party..

Christmas Books: A Holiday Tradition

One of our favorite holiday traditions, is to gather around the Christmas tree or snuggle in our beds, and read Christmas books together. Each year, on Christmas Eve, my girls get to open one gift. It is always a Christmas book, with a sweet written message that I write to them. The excitement that they have, when I bring out the basket of Christmas books each year is pure joy! It’s a fun tradition, which carries sweet memories that we love to look back on.

Here are a few of our favorites, along with some new books I’ll be gifting to them this year..

The Sweet Smell of Christmas / The Little Reindeer / God Gave Us Christmas / Dasher / The Reindeer Express / Snow Sisters / The Night Before Christmas / The Wish Tree / Pick a Pine Tree / The Polar Express / The Nutcracker / The Crayons’ Christmas / The Christmas Wish / How to Catch an Elf / Gingerbread Mouse

Fall Fairy Garden

I am super excited to finally share this little treasure of a Fairy Garden. Pete created this beautiful structure, just outside of Chloe’s bedroom window. If you remember, the inspiration to her bedroom design, is Fairy Garden (see it here). Both Chloe and Capri have had so much fun collecting pieces and tending to their “garden.” They even picked out the mums and pumpkins to feel more fall-like.

Pete built this structure last year, and I love how the wood has aged over time. It feels like an extension of our home and I love how well it blends in with the landscaping surrounding it. Follow along, as I share the progress of construction, and what the Fairy Garden looks like today..

I absolutely love watching my girls play in this space, and use their imaginations to the fullest. It is one of the sweetest things my husband has ever built, and I am so incredibly proud of his creation. I can’t wait to add more pieces and see it transform into something even more beautiful, over the next few years!

Chloe’s First Communion

Last weekend, we watched our beautiful Chloe Mae receive her First Eucharist. We are so incredibly proud of her. She has become so devoted and eager to learn what it means to receive the Eucharist of the Lord. It was a beautiful day, filled with family, friends and sunshine!

Here are a few of my very favorite photos, taken by my very best friend, Megan, from Under the Willow Photography.

Easter Basket Ideas for Girls

Easter is next weekend, and I’ve been searching for some fun things to add to my girls’ Easter Baskets. I’m not a fan of giving them candy, so I prefer to fill them up with some cute accessories or small toys. I also love the idea of adding a few fun things for summertime, to get us excited for the warm months ahead. Here are some cute finds, in a mixed variety for both age groups.. Chloe (8) and Capri (4).

Chloe’s 8th Birthday Party: Descendants Style

Last weekend we celebrated our beautiful girl, Chloe Mae. She turned 8 years old and has been obsessed with everything Disney Descendants. I have to admit, I wasn’t thrilled when she wanted this party theme, but together we made it fun.. and not too “wicked.” Here’s a peek at some of the party details..

I really enjoy these themed parties and dread the day that my girls no longer ask for them. My favorite part is planning them together and gathering their ideas too. As they are getting older, I cherish these moments with all my heart.

Fruit Salsa with Heart Shaped Cinnamon Sugar Chips

Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day with your spouse over a romantic dinner? Or together as a family with your kids? We like to make it special with our little loves, and today I’m sharing a super simple recipe that’s so fun to get your kids involved, and “helping” in the kitchen.

Fruit Salsa with Heart Shaped Cinnamon Sugar Chips is the perfect appetizer or sweet treat for your Valentine’s Day dinner. It is so versatile, and can be used with a variety of different fruits. We used strawberries, raspberries and apples (to make it look pretty with pinks and reds). But, you can add pears, blueberries, blackberries, pineapple.. the list goes on!

I had Chloe (my older one) cut the fruit into tiny pieces, and then Capri (the youngest) mixed it all together. We all took turns with the cookie cutter shapes and sprinkling the cinnamon sugar. It was a fun activity and delicious treat that we were all able to create together.

Cinnamon Sugar Chips

  • 4-6 burrito-style tortillas
  • coconut oil cooking spray
  • cinnamon sugar

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Cut tortillas into appropriate shape with cookie cutter
  3. Spray with cooking spray
  4. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar
  5. Bake for 10-12 minutes
  6. Transfer to a cooling rack and let cool
  7. Serve with fruit salsa or store in an airtight container

Fruit Salsa

  • 1 cup strawberries
  • 1/2 cup raspberries
  • 1 large apple
  • squeeze of citrus to prevent apples from browning (we used a squeeze of grapefruit)

  1. Finely chop strawberries, raspberries and apple
  2. Combine ingredients
  3. Squeeze citrus
  4. Gently mix together
  5. Chill until ready to serve

Free Valentine Printable

Today I’m sharing a quick (and FREE) printable for Valentine’s Day. I purchased a bag of heart shaped lollipops, but wanted to be able to personalize them for Chloe’s classroom Valentine exchange. I created a fun graphic, printed the file, and cut the squares. Then, Chloe will personalize each one and attach them to the lollipops with either tape or a dot of glue.

It’s cute + quick and perfect for so many different sweet treats! Enjoy!
